Methodology

Two category types

Data-grounded categories (solar, wind, electric mobility, nuclear fission, grid storage) are ranked using real, cited capacity, deployment, or investment figures from sources like IRENA, the IEA, and industry trackers. Where a figure wasn't available for a specific country, we say so rather than estimate it.

Illustrative categories (nuclear fusion, quantum computing, enhanced geothermal, tidal/wave) don't yet have a standardized, comparable metric the way installed gigawatts does. Their standings are our editorial judgment based on real, cited developments — funding rounds, technical milestones, government investment, company counts — combined qualitatively rather than measured on one scale. Every fact cited is real and sourced; the ranking of who's "ahead" is a call, not a calculation.

What we don't do

We do not compute a single composite score across categories by combining incompatible units (gigawatts, funding dollars, milestone counts) into one number — that would manufacture false precision. The medal table only counts real per-category placements; it never averages or weights across categories into an index number.

Freshness

Each category page shows an "as of" date. Standings are updated periodically as new sourced developments emerge, not on a fixed schedule — a category that hasn't moved in months probably just hasn't had a real, verifiable development worth re-ranking over.

Corrections

If a figure is wrong or a source no longer supports a claim, it gets fixed — the same standard Pangeas News holds itself to.
